Understanding and Finding Your NBN Access Virtual Circuit Identification (AVC) ID
When changing your NBN provider, you are often required to provide a special code called the Access Virtual Circuit Identification (AVC) ID. This unique identifier is crucial for a smooth and secure transfer of your NBN service.
This guide explains:
-
What the AVC ID is.
-
Why it’s important.
-
How to find your AVC ID if you are joining Elevate Internet.
-
How to find your AVC ID if you are already an Elevate Internet customer.
Key Points to Remember:
-
The AVC ID is tied to your specific NBN service connection, not your name or physical address.
-
If you move house and get a new NBN connection, you will receive a new AVC ID for that new service.
-
Providing the correct AVC ID is essential for a smooth and error-free transfer between providers.
What is the NBN AVC ID?
The Access Virtual Circuit Identification (AVC) ID is a unique 15-character alphanumeric code linked to your individual NBN service connection at your premises.
-
Example: AVC123456789100
-
Think of it as a specific identification number for your internet service line.
The AVC ID helps your current and new providers accurately identify the exact service to be transferred. This is especially important in locations with multiple NBN services (e.g. apartment complexes).
Why it Matters
Using the correct AVC ID:
-
Reduces the risk of errors, like disconnecting the wrong service.
-
Ensures a seamless and accurate transfer process.
-
Protects your service from unauthorised changes.
AVC ID Becomes Mandatory from April 2025
As part of the industry-wide C647:2023 NBN Access Transfer Code, providing the AVC ID will be mandatory for all NBN service transfers (across all providers and customers) starting from April 2025.
This regulation aims to:
-
Improve accuracy in service transfers.
-
Prevent unauthorised or mistaken service changes.
-
Ensure greater transparency and consumer protection.
Switching to Elevate? How to Find Your AVC ID
If you are switching your NBN service to Elevate Internet, you must obtain your AVC ID from your current (or previous) provider.
Your current provider is obligated to make this information accessible to you. Here’s where to look:
-
On Your Bill or Invoice:
-
Check your most recent monthly bill from your current provider.
-
Look for the AVC ID (sometimes labelled "NBN Service ID", "AVC Service ID", or similar) usually listed in the details section for your NBN service or internet charges.
-
-
In Your Online Account or Mobile App:
-
Log in to your current provider’s online account portal or mobile app.
-
Navigate to sections often labelled "Service Details", "NBN Information", or "Connection Details".
-
-
Contact Their Customer Support:
-
If you cannot find the AVC ID on your bill or online portal, contact your current provider’s customer support directly (phone or live chat recommended).
-
After verifying your identity, they are required to provide the AVC ID to you.
-
Important: You must obtain your AVC ID from your existing provider before you can complete the sign-up and transfer process to Elevate Internet.
