Setting Up Your TP-Link Deco X-20 DSL for Elevate Internet VDSL (PPPoE)

This guide will walk you through setting up your TP-Link Deco X-20 DSL modem router for your Elevate Internet VDSL service using PPPoE authentication. The setup process typically takes only a few minutes.

Before you begin: Ensure you have your PPPoE username and PPPoE password ready. These were provided in your Elevate Internet activation email.

1. Initial Physical Setup

a. Unbox the Device:

  • Remove the TP-Link Deco X-20 DSL device and accessories from the box.

  • Confirm you have the Power adapterDSL cable (phone cable), and Ethernet cable.

b. Connect the Cables:

  • Connect one end of the DSL cable to the DSL port on the back of the Deco X-20 DSL.

  • Connect the other end of the DSL cable to your phone wall socket designated for VDSL service.

  • Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet and connect its other end to the power slot on the Deco X-20 DSL.

c. Wait for Initialization:

  • Allow the Deco device to power up. The LED will initially show yellow.

  • The device will attempt to synchronize with the VDSL network. This can take up to 5 minutes.

  • Monitor the DSL LED on the device:

    • Pulsing: DSL synchronization is in progress.

    • Solid On: DSL connection is established and synchronized. This is the desired state.

    • Off: DSL connection failed or the cable is disconnected. Double-check your cable connections.

2. Configuration via Deco App

a. Install the Deco App:

  • Download the TP-Link Deco app from the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS).

  • Install the app on your smartphone or tablet.

b. Start Deco Setup:

  • Open the Deco app.

  • Log in with your TP-Link ID or sign up for a new one.

  • Tap "Let's begin".

  • Select your Deco model: Deco X-20 DSL.

  • When asked how you want to use the product, choose "Use as a DSL Modem Router".

  • Follow the app's instructions to connect your phone/tablet to the Deco's default Wi-Fi network (details are usually on the bottom of the Deco unit).

c. Configure Internet Connection:

  • The app will guide you through the internet setup.

  • Select your Region (e.g., Australia).

  • Select your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If Elevate Internet is not listed, you may need to choose "Other".

  • For DSL Connection Type, select VDSL.

  • For Internet Connection Type, select PPPoE.

  • Enter the PPPoE username and PPPoE password provided in your Elevate Internet activation email. Ensure these are entered exactly as provided.

  • Follow the remaining prompts in the app to complete the setup (e.g., setting up your Wi-Fi network name and password).

3. Connecting Your Devices to Wi-Fi

a. Find Your Wi-Fi Details:

  • If you haven't customized them during the app setup, the default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password are printed on a sticker on the bottom of the main Deco X-20 DSL unit.

b. Connect Your Devices:

  • On your computer, smartphone, tablet, or other Wi-Fi enabled devices, open the Wi-Fi settings.

  • Scan for available networks.

  • Select the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) you configured (or the default one from the sticker).

  • Enter the Wi-Fi password when prompted.

Recommendation: For better security, we strongly advise changing the default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password using the Deco app once setup is complete.
